The new status symbol of the urban gardener is the eco-efficient broom or rake. Hosing leaves off the driveway and footpath are out and so is powering up a two-stroke petrol engine to give the lawn a quick blow. Leaf blowers or air brooms are not only a source of noise pollution for the neighbours but can produce the same amount of air pollutants in an hour as driving a car from Sydney to Brisbane.
